I reworked this koan, Mu, to add the dog to the bass drum and to redraw Joshu’s head. I didn’t realize when I started these that there would be recurring “characters” and I might need to inject a little continuity to their looks. While not perfect, and not a close resemblance to the historical Joshu (ch: Zhaozhou Congshen), I feel that the three appearances I’ve drawn seem like a progression in age.
